Immunomodulation

Vevye®

cyclosporine ophthalmic solution 0.1%

Clinical Snapshot

Vevye is a water-free, perfluorocarbon-based cyclosporine formulation providing the highest commercially available cyclosporine concentration (0.1%) in a novel vehicle designed to improve tolerability and corneal penetration.

Mechanism of Action

Cyclosporine inhibits calcineurin, reducing T-cell activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine release. The perfluorocarbon vehicle enhances corneal penetration and tolerability compared to earlier emulsion-based formulations.

Common Clinical Applications

  • Signs and symptoms of dry eye disease

Typical Dosing Principles

One drop in each eye twice daily. The water-free vehicle is designed to improve comfort and reduce burning.

Dosing information is provided for educational purposes. Always consult current prescribing information for specific dosing protocols.

Important Precautions

  • Contraindicated in patients with active ocular infections.
  • Patients should remove contact lenses prior to instillation and may reinsert 15 minutes after dosing.

Clinical Pearls

  • The perfluorocarbon vehicle offers a distinct tolerability profile — a useful option for patients who discontinued earlier cyclosporine formulations due to burning.
  • Onset of clinical effect is gradual; patients benefit from realistic expectations.
  • Consider in patients with significant corneal staining or goblet cell loss.
