perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution
Clinical Snapshot
Miebo is the first and only FDA-approved treatment targeting evaporative dry eye through tear film stabilization. Its mechanism is entirely distinct from anti-inflammatory therapies — it acts directly at the tear film surface.
Mechanism of Action
Perfluorohexyloctane (PFHO) forms a stable semi-fluorinated alkane layer over the tear film, reducing evaporative tear loss by inhibiting lipid layer disruption. Unlike anti-inflammatory agents, Miebo targets the evaporative component directly.
